Candi Granés, one of the 151 people included in the book “Amb nom i cognoms” (People with an identity)

Candi Granés, who laid the foundations for Granés Fundació, is one of 151 people included in the book Amb nom i cognoms. 151 personatges del Pla de l’Estany (segles XIX i XX) (People with an identity. 151 exceptional people from the Pla de l’Estany (19th and 20th centuries)) published by Edicions MMV. In this book, its author, Joan Anton Abellán, provides an overview of the county’s most emblematic personages, with a selection of articles published previously in different local magazines. He has focused on the 19th and 20th centuries in order to offer a greater variety of profiles.

The book reviews the career of Candi Granés and his wish to give back to society and his local community part of what he had received during his life, through what is now known as Granés Fundació.

The book devotes a considerable number of pages to the county’s most emblematic families, such as the Ametllers, the Morgats or the Frigolas, among others. Readers will find soldiers, teachers, painters, inventors and other interesting people from Banyoles. The book has also sought to include women, who appear in greater numbers from the Second Republic onwards and were mostly schoolteachers and councillors at the local Town Hall. However, in spite of the effort made, it has not managed to equal the number of male characters.
