“Are You CAPABLE Of Changing? You’re The One Who Puts Up The Barriers”

“Are you CAPABLE of changing? You’re the one who puts up the barriers”

3 December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The Pla de l’Estany Disability Panel has launched the campaign “Are you CAPABLE of changing? You’re the one who puts up the barriers”. It is included within the activities organised during the year as part of the “Diversity is you” campaign.

“I’ll park in one of the parking spaces for disabled people. It’ll only be a minute”, “That poor girl who’s stuck in a wheelchair” or “I don’t want to rent my flat to disabled people” are some examples of the attitudes towards disabled people that may seem harmless but in actual fact are highly discriminating.

The campaign’s goal is to change patronising and exclusionary views of disabled people, and normalise disability as simply another way of living, acknowledging their right to be more independent and live life in equal conditions with the rest of society.

Two actions have been organised to convey this message. One of them is an exhibition that can be visited until 18 January at the Lluís Coromina Foundation’s Eat Art Space in Banyoles. And on 3 December, at 10:00 pm, Banyoles TV will show the report “Are you capable of changing?”.
