This Monday, December 9, 2024, Nico Rubio Carretero, Vice-President of the Board of Trustees of Granés Fundació, passed away in Banyoles, a role he had held for two years.

The Board of Trustees and colleagues associated with Granés Fundació wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. With a strong sense of belonging and connection to Pla de l’Estany, his capacity, work, and vision for the region will always be with us.

Nico Rubio (born in Banyoles, 1979) held a degree in Political Science and Public Administration from UAB, a Master’s in Public Administration from ESADE, and completed the NGO Management and Leadership Program at ESADE.

In the late 1990s, he was a kayak polo paddler at the Banyoles Swimming Club. From the very beginning, he was part of the Catalan national team at the Spanish Championship, at a time when it was exclusively composed of members from CN Banyoles. In 2009, he won the silver medal at the Atlantic Nautical Games and the National Club League.

Professionally, for over a decade, he was the International Projects Coordinator at the FC Barcelona Foundation. He also had experience and knowledge in the public sector: he worked at the Pla de l’Estany County Council and at the General Secretariat of Social Services of the Government of Catalonia under Minister Carme Capdevila.
